Orchid Fest by ~

Recently Moscow decided to celebrate the Orchid Fest. This day is traditionally marked every first summer day in countries where these wonderful flowers grow. That day restaurants offered to its visitors unusual treatments. For mere approximate 1000 rubles for a plate (about 35 dollars) you could try delicious dishes made of orchids - salad, appetizer, and two second courses - with meat or fish. And finally - plat du jour - pickled orchids! - a treatment that once so much astonished Russian prince Nikolay (this will be another story). Moreover, if you come with a lady, at the entrance they offer her a present - a fabulous bunch of orchids (for free). The plates are decorated with orchids too. So the benefits are obvious - bring HER hungry, no flowers, angry after a working day to the restaurant - and take away content, with a gorgeous bouquet ready for everything woman because orchids are considered to be powerful aphrodisiacs - for a long time they are used to regain sexual power. In ancient Greece they were making up medicines to maintain sexuality. Even the name of the flower comes from “orchis”, a Latin word meaning testicles.
Orchids can be loved not only for their beauty but also for the delicious taste. In Turkey they produce special ice-cream made of orchid roots ground in fine flour. They say, the ice-cream is really worth trying - it’s extremely savory. Certainly local nature protection organizations are much worried about wild orchid extermination - It takes about 1000 orchids to produce 1 kg of orchid flour! Presently such orchids can be seldom met at their natural habitat - in mountains at the south-eastern Turkey. Unfortunately producers pay no attention - it’s their way to earn the living, huh! They claim they would do this anyway, even not legally.
